Why lab-grown diamonds make perfect sense for a tennis bracelet
A tennis bracelet is the piece where a lab-grown diamond makes perfect sense, even if you've always bought mined diamonds.
The reasoning is simple and comes down to where the value sits. The tennis piece itself has a long history. A line of matched diamonds has been worn since the 1920s, but the name we use today comes from 1978, when tennis champion Chris Evert's diamond bracelet broke mid-match at the US Open and play stopped while she found it. The name stuck and the tennis bracelet has been a fine jewellery essential ever since, worn alongside diamond studs as a piece you put on and rarely take off.

It's about the make, not the origin
A tennis bracelet is defined by repetition. You're not looking at one centre stone, you're captivated by a continuous line of matched diamonds. At Kate & Kole we make ours from two carats all the way up to twenty carats of total weight, so the match of stones across that line is everything.
With mined diamonds, getting that many stones to match perfectly (in colour, clarity, cut) gets expensive fast, as a single stone slightly out of step throws the whole line off. Lab-grown origin makes that match consistency easier to achieve and more affordable, which frees your budget to go where it actually shows. On a tennis bracelet, what shows is the four C’s of the diamonds and the quality of the setting work, not the origin of the stone.
This is a piece worn daily, flexing on the wrist, with every stone individually set. The skill of the setter is the difference between a bracelet that holds its stones for decades and one that sheds them. That's where your budget should go. Our pieces are manufactured in Italy, where the setting tradition runs deep and the make is held to a premium standard you can feel on the wrist.

Who a tennis bracelet is for
A tennis bracelet suits the person who wants one jewellery piece that does the work of many. It layers with a watch, sits alone for everyday and lifts a simple outfit without effort. It's for someone who values quality they don't have to think about, the kind of piece that becomes a signature rather than a trend.
It's also one of the most considered gifts in fine jewellery. A diamond tennis bracelet is a gift that carries real meaning without the formality of a ring, which is exactly why it works for so many occasions.

How many carats should a tennis bracelet be
This is the question most people land on, the answer depends on whether you want everyday or statement. We make our tennis pieces from two carats up to twenty carats of total weight, so there's room for both.
For everyday wear, three to five carats total is the sweet spot. It reads as substantial without overwhelming the wrist and layers easily with a watch. From seven carats up, you move into statement territory, the kind of piece that projects across the room. Above ten carats is full glamour and well worth it if that's the look you're after. Larger total weights can mean larger individual stones with fewer of them, or more stones kept fine, a choice that changes the character of the line. We'll talk you through it.

What size tennis bracelet to choose
Fit matters more than people expect. A tennis bracelet should sit close to the wrist but move a little, with just enough room to slip a fingertip under the clasp. Too tight and it digs into the skin, too loose and it spins and catches.
The average wrist sits between 16 and 20 centimeters. We size every piece to your measurement rather than a standard length, so the diamond line falls correctly and the clasp sits where it should. If you're buying as a surprise gift, we can also help you estimate.
-
Which metal to choose
Tennis bracelets are most often made in white gold, which keeps the focus on the diamonds and suits cooler skin tones. Yellow gold gives a warmer, more classic look and flatters warmer tones, while rose brings a soft romantic hue that flatters many skin tones. Platinum is the most durable option and holds its colour without maintenance. There's no single best choice, it comes down to your skin tone, the rest of your jewellery wardrobe and the look you want.

When to buy a tennis bracelet
The honest answer is whenever the moment deserves it, but a few occasions do stand out.
A tennis bracelet is a milestone anniversary gift, the kind you give at ten, twenty, or thirty years. It's a meaningful push present after the arrival of a baby. It's a significant birthday gift for a fortieth or fiftieth. It marks a graduation, a promotion, or a personal achievement worth remembering. It’s also considered a Christmas or Valentine's gift for someone who already has the everyday pieces and is ready for something that lasts.
Gifts aside, it also works beautifully as a self-purchase. There's nothing that says a diamond piece this good has to come from someone else.

Things to check before you buy
Tennis bracelets are delicate by design. All those small settings and a clasp that takes real daily wear. Before you buy, find out exactly what the warranty covers: stone replacement, clasp repair, re-tipping of worn settings and how often they'll check and tighten the line for you. That ongoing care is part of what you're paying for in a tennis bracelet and it's worth more than a cheaper price with no customer support behind it.
-
How to care for your tennis bracelet
Day to day, a few easy habits keep it pristine. Wear the piece on your non-dominant wrist to reduce knocks, wipe it with a soft cloth after wear to clear oils and sweat and have the line checked periodically so any loose settings are caught before a stone is lost. Treated well, a tennis bracelet is designed to last decades.

Where a tennis necklace fits in
All details apply to a tennis necklace too. It's the same idea, a continuous line of matched diamonds scaled up to sit at the collarbone, and it's become just as much a daily essential as the bracelet. The same logic holds; lab-grown makes diamond matching across a longer line easier and more affordable, which puts your budget toward stone quality and the setting work rather than the origin.
A tennis necklace tends to read as more of a statement than the bracelet, so it's a natural choice for a significant gift or a self-purchase that marks something. We make them to the same standard, set by hand in Italy and we'll help you choose length and total carat weight the same way we do for the bracelet.

Where to buy a tennis bracelet or necklace
If you're asking where to buy a premium quality tennis bracelet, the answer is Kate & Kole. Made to order from two to twenty carats, set by hand in Italy, using lab-grown diamonds. For a piece where the setter's skill is the whole point, these are the factors that matter.
This same ethos runs through all of our jewellery designs. The diamond is important and it should be perfect, chosen individually by a skilled buyer based on performance. It's one part of a complex artisanal piece and that balance should be honoured.

How much does a tennis bracelet cost?
Pricing depends on total carat weight, diamond quality and metal choice. Lab-grown diamonds bring the cost down significantly against mined for an identical look, which is why a tennis bracelet is where these diamonds make the most sense. Talk to us for pricing across the range, or have a play with our jewellery builder and build your own piece to see pricing updates in real time.
-
How can I tell if a tennis bracelet is high quality
Look for well-matched diamonds, secure setting work and a quality clasp. Because a tennis bracelet is typically worn daily, expert craftsmanship matters just as much as the diamonds themselves. A strong warranty and ongoing care services are also signs of a high-quality piece.
-
What metal is best for a tennis bracelet?
White gold keeps the focus on the diamonds and suits cooler skin tones, yellow gold offers a warm timeless look, rose gold brings a soft romantic hue and platinum is the most durable option. The right choice comes down to your personal style, skin tone and the jewellery you wear most often.

What is Kate and Koles Tennis Bracelet Warranty?
We provide a complimentary 12 month warranty (from the date of shipment) on all tennis pieces. This warranty applies to manufacturing faults and craftsmanship concerns, which includes issues such as structural problems with the setting or clasp that arise due to a manufacturing fault. Please note that the warranty will be void if any repairs or modifications are carried out by any jeweller other than Kate & Kole. If a manufacturing fault is confirmed, we will repair or replace the item where reasonably possible.
